Literature Text

Some words feel pretty
dripping off the tongue
like love perches herself
on the wings of the butterflies
dancing around in your tummy;
like sunflowers grow on
the trellis that is your body
because your name is
just as pretty
rolling out of my mouth,
cascading off my tongue
as love and sunflowers
combined.

Some words are incredibly acidic
exiting the throat
and they sound rough in the ears.
Words like this include
anger and hatred.
They swell in heavy,
afraid hearts.

Though anger is sometimes inevitable
it can be easily remedied,
hatred is biting and bitter
and, baby, it is oh so difficult
to make hatred beautiful.
I’m not asking for perfection
or anything close to it.
I’m not asking for you to sound
pretty all the time.
That’s as impossible as
reading your mind.
Just, if you could, love,
try to keep hatred
out of your vocabulary.
You’re
becoming, demure;
eloquent and excellent--
simple ineffable;
You don’t need such a horrid word
stinking up your vocabulary.
I couldn't think of a title for this.
It's late; I'll think of one tomorrow.
Also, words like "love" and "sunflowers" and "hatred" should be italicized, but I'm too lazy to insert all the coding again. I had done it once, then hit cancel rather than okay. So, yeah. ^^;

Right, so, there's a teen poetry slam at my local library, and I am so going for it. I wanted to write something I could read there because I feel like a lot of my works are either too short or not slam appropriate. I like this because it plays with the sound of words. It's between this one and my poem titled "Stuff." I'll practice tomorrow and see which one sounds better. :XD:

Enjoy!

Wow.
I love this so much!! The rhythm is perfect, you used great words, and the story behind it is very relate-able. This may actually be my favorite of your works! Amazing job!!!
